## About this event

This is part 6 of Load Design in Practice: 2024 IBC Chapter 16 and ASCE 7-22, a seven-part series with the International Code Council (ICC). The series covers the proper evaluation of structural loads under the 2024 International Building Code (IBC) and the IBC-referenced ASCE/SEI 7-22 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures. Each session gives an overview of the topic, the changes in the 2024 IBC and ASCE 7-22, and worked examples that show how the provisions apply.

This session covered the requirements for flood and tsunami loads, including flood and tsunami hazard areas and hazard zones, plus methods for determining hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, wave and impact loads. It was presented by John "Buddy" Showalter, P.E.

John "Buddy" Showalter, P.E.

John "Buddy" Showalter, P.E., is Senior Staff Engineer in the International Code Council's Product Development department. He has more than 30 years of experience across structural engineering and building codes, including nine years as Vice President of Technology Transfer at the American Wood Council. He has published more than 60 technical articles and serves on the editorial board of STRUCTURE magazine. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Virginia Tech and is a licensed engineer.

Juan Pablo Ramos Lara

Customer Success Specialist - Structural Engineering · Calcs.com

Juan Pablo Ramos Lara is a Customer Success Specialist on the structural engineering team at Calcs.com. He started at the company contributing to the development of structural engineering calculators on the platform before moving into his current role, where he works closely with engineers to get the most out of Calcs.com in their day-to-day design work. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and regularly represents Calcs.com at industry events across North America, including the NCSEA Summit and regional structural engineering conferences.
